Press release of February 2, 2012:

Berlin: Hans-Michael Giesen and Alfried Heidbrink to set up new law firm

Solicitor and notary Dr. Hans-Michael Giesen (54) and solicitor Dr. Alfried Heidbrink (47) will form a new Berlin-based law firm, which will be known as GIESEN HEIDBRINK, on March 1, 2012.

Both had initially been partners for many years at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer and its legacy firms. Hans-Michael Giesen, whose practice focuses on company law, transactions and corporate notarial services, joined the Berlin office of Görg in 2008. Alfried Heidbrink primarily acts as arbitrator as well as counsel in litigation and arbitration proceedings; in 2006 he joined the Berlin law firm of lindenpartners. Both Giesen and Heidbrink have a strong international practice and close ties to the U.S. Giesen was the managing partner of the New York office of Bruckhaus Westrick Stegemann and Bruckhaus Westrick Heller Löber from 1996 to 2000; Heidbrink worked in that office as an associate in 1994 and 1995.

Both partners are leaving their present firms on amicable terms and will continue working in their current practice areas. "We consider ourselves senior advisers, who are brought in primarily when experience matters more than a large team", said Giesen. Heidbrink added, "Our practice areas are complementary; our international focus is what we have in common. We are very much looking forward to our new venture."
